French Open final build up, Spaniard eyes 12th title

The Spanish second seed Nadal has only dropped one set against David Goffin in a third-round clash, and has progressed to the final by defeating his years-long Swiss rival, Roger Federer in straight sets, 6-3 6-4 6-2.

Organisers said the semi-final would not resume until 1300 GMT (15:00) at the earliest, which was the original scheduled time for the women's final between Ashleigh Barty and Marketa Vondrousova.

Tournament director Guy Forget denied suggestions that Djokovic had left the grounds before play was postponed. A week after having to make way for Serena Williams in the main press conference room, the Austrian demonstrated his prowess on this surface by reaching his second successive final with an epic win over Novak Djokovic.

Play was eventually cancelled for the day about 50 minutes later despite no rain falling - leading to criticism from former French Open champion and pundit Jim Courier.

He could also move to within two of Federer on the all-time Grand Slam title winners' list with an 18th major on Sunday.

The 16-year-old Fernandez was runner-up at the Australian Open.

Djokovic levelled the match by taking the fourth set 7-5. He could hit a few balls, relax and do a little scouting while Thiem and Novak Djokovic slugged it...

President Trump Now Is Calling Meghan Markle "Nice"

Nadal and Thiem have been the two best players on clay during the season and it is only fitting that they meet in the final.

The clay courts of Roland Garros host the second Grand Slam of the season.

Asked to describe the conditions, Djokovic added: "One of the worst conditions I have ever been part of". "I don't even know who I need to go search for to go practice with somebody who plays like him".

Thiem is attempting to win his first major title, Nadal his 18th.

Thiem has won only four of his 12 meetings with Nadal during his career, but does have the confidence of knowing that he prevailed in their most recent match, beating the Spaniard in the semifinal of the Barcelona Open at the end of April on his way to winning the title.

"He is the favorite, of course", Thiem said of Nadal.

On Friday night, he had called the supervisor onto the court to complain about having to play in the high winds. "I think that tomorrow he's looking forward to showing his best. They looked at each other and said "OK". I mean, it's not the first time that that happens in tennis, and it's not going to be the last time.
