Felicity Huffman Pleads Guilty to College Admissions Fraud

Prosecutors in MA recommended a four-month prison sentence for actor Felicity Huffman on Monday after she formally entered her guilty plea in a college admissions scandal, court documents indicate.

The "Desperate Housewives" star appeared in a federal courtroom in Boston and admitted she paid $15,000 to a fraudulent charity to arrange for cheating on her daughter's SAT test.

She arrived at court holding the hand of her brother Moore Huffman Jr. and did not say anything to journalists. Her husband, "Shameless" actor William H. Macy, was not charged. A judge will have the final say on what sentence Huffman actually receives.

"No, your honour", Huffman replied.

The actress made arrangements to cheat a second time, for her younger daughter, before deciding not to do so, according to prosecutors.

Huffman is the latest high-profile parent to admit her role in the largest college admissions scandal ever prosecuted.

Loughlin and Giannulli were among the parents who did not plead guilty initially, and now face an indictment for money laundering in addition to the original fraud charge. "Everything else they say I did, I did". Authorities have called it the biggest college admissions cheating scandal ever prosecuted in the US, ensnaring Hollywood stars and business executives as well as coaches at such prestigious schools as Georgetown and Yale. In a statement she read to the court, Huffman claimed her daughter did not know that her mother had paid to have the answers on her SAT exam corrected after taking the test.

Huffman's daughter received an SAT score of 1420 out of a possible 1600 - an improvement of approximately 400 points over her Preliminary SAT exam, taken without Singer's help, one year earlier.

Rosen noted that she discussed the scheme with Singer, including troubles getting her daughter's testing location and proctor changed after she was granted extra time on the exam.

She has apologised, expressing "deep regret and shame", and said her 18-year-old daughter was unaware of her actions.

Felicity Huffman pleaded guilty for her involvement in the "Operation Varsity Blues" scandal in a Boston federal court Monday afternoon. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Times notes, prosecutors have said they would recommend capping her sentence at just four months.

"I am pleading guilty to the charge brought against me by the United States Attorney's office", Huffman said in a statement released last month.

Devin Sloane, a California businessman tied to the college admission scandal, also pleaded guilty.
