Pompeo skips Moscow, visits Brussels for Iran talks

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced a surprise visit to Brussels to discuss "pressing matters".

INSTEX, a tool for companies to do barter trade with Iran while avoiding US sanctions, is struggling to get off the ground, diplomats say on condition of anonymity.

Mogherini gave a chilly response to news of Pompeo's visit, which she said was only communicated to Brussels at the last minute.

In theory that probably means Pompeo brow-beating Russia over how Ukraine hasn't managed to crush the ethnic Russian region along the Russian border, something the United States has long had a problem with. So we will see during the day how and if will manage to arrange a meeting.

The Pentagon announced Friday that it is deploying an amphibious assault ship and a Patriot missile battery to the Middle East to bolster an aircraft carrier force sent to counter alleged threats from Iran.

"Most of all, we need to make sure we don't end up putting Iran back on the path to renuclearisation".

Ms Mogherini expressed the EU's support for the nuclear deal and asked all sides to avoid escalation on the issue following USA withdrawal from the agreement previous year and a partial withdrawal from Iran last week.

European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Monday that she expects to hold a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo later in the day in Brussels. The European parties insist the agreement was never meant to address those issues but has been effective in curbing Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Further, Keane said Iran has taken control of Lebanon, catalyzed the civil war in Syria, "toppled the government" in Yemen and is now turning their attention towards Israel.

China trade war: China remains positive despite any agreement
President Donald Trump's increased tariffs on $200 billion in imports have been now taking effect, heightening tensions. They also reduce pressure from foreign competition and make it easier for home-grown companies to raise prices.

North Korea's missile tests not 'breach of trust'
The professor believes that Pyongyang, technically, didn't violate its self-imposed moratorium with these weapons tests. The latest tests coincided with a visit to the South Korean capital by US special envoy for North Korea Stephen Biegun.

This comes as Iran has given the five remaining parties to the nuclear deal a 60-day ultimatum to comply with their commitments, particularly those regarding Iran's economic interests in the banking and energy sectors, before the country would start reducing portions of its own commitments to the agreement stage by stage.

"While Iran remains in compliance, the United Kingdom remains committed to the Iran deal".

The trip will be Pompeo's first to Russia as secretary of state and as he prepared for his weekend departure, administration critics, including congressional Democrats, noted that a statement highly critical of alleged Russian involvement in an attempted coup in Montenegro had been removed from the State Department's website.

Mass said they also insisted on the importance of the nuclear deal.

"E3" stands for Germany, France and Britain, which are parties to an global treaty that seeks to lift trade barriers with Iran while preventing the country from developing nuclear weapons.

"I'm hearing little stories about Iran", Trump said at the White House.

As the U.S. sanctions bite, domestic pressure is increasing on Rouhani to demonstrate that Iran can still benefit from an agreement based on providing it with economic opportunities in exchange for limiting nuclear development.

"We have already initiated concrete steps in recent months, especially as concerns the payment channel and INSTEX".
