Nintendo Switch Has Officially Outsold The N64

The Kyoto-based company behind the Super Mario and Pokemon franchises on Thursday reported a 194 billion yen ($1.7 billion) annual profit.

Sales of the Nintendo Switch are no longer meeting Nintendo's predictions, suggesting that the success of the console will be short-lived.

A March report from the Wall Street Journal indicated that Nintendo is working on two new versions of the Switch hardware: one cheaper model for more casual players, and one more expensive model for "avid" fans.

According to the publisher, the Switch is now at 34.47 million units sold worldwide.

As for the other rumored Switch model, Bloomberg's sources say that a more powerful Switch is not in the works, but that the standard Switch will receive "a modest upgrade" before the end of the year.

Libya crisis: Clashes erupt south of capital Tripoli
The US and Russian Federation declined on Thursday to support a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Libya. In the past the United Arab Emirates and Egypt have supported Haftar with air strikes during campaigns to take eastern Libya.

Software titles have also underperformed, with 119 million software units sold in Nintendo's last fiscal year, less than the expected 121 million units. While that missed the company's ambitious plan to sell 20 million units during the fiscal year, it did represent a 12.7% year-on-year increase. By comparison, the Wii U hit 13.56 million units sold in its lifetime from 2012 to 2017.

Predictably, the Nintendo 3DS continues to drop, with hardware sales down 60.2% compared to the previous year, and software sales down 62.9%.

The year's jump in software sales were thanks to the release of a number of major titles.

On mobile, Nintendo's IP related income rose by 17 percent year-over-year to 46.0 billion yen ($411.8 million), and the company seemed particularly pleased with the performance of Dragalia Lost.
