Trump Wishes 'No Ill Will' With Tweet on Muslim Lawmaker: White House

The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee said Sunday that he didn't see a legal way for the administration to implement a proposal to release undocumented immigrants into "sanctuary cities".

"So let's put some of those people into their communities and into their towns and see if they are okay then with that same impact", she said.

On Sunday, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told ABC News' "This Week" that administration staff had initially concluded that transporting immigrants to sanctuary cities may prove too logistically challenging, but that the White House was exploring its options because "the president likes the idea".

"Nobody thinks that this is the ideal solution", Sanders said.

The Department of Homeland Security has said that Congress has not appropriated any money to transport the migrants from the border to far-flung sanctuary cities across the US, while the Immigration and Custom Enforcement agency has called it an "unnecessary operational burden".

The GOP governor-turned-senator appeared on CNN's State of the Union Sunday, where he cast some doubt on the president's proposal to relocate detained immigrants from the southern border with Mexico and to so-called sanctuary cities such as New York, San Francisco and Chicago that have policies against arresting illegal migrants exclusively for the goal of deportation.

Sanders' primary mission was to belittle reports that Trump either jokingly or non-jokingly offered Customs and Border Protection head Kevin McAleenan a pardon if McAleenan violated US law by closing off the southern border to migrants and asylum seekers. "The word is out that if you come with a minor, you're never going to get deported". We need troops at the border.

"If Democrats would step up and help the president fix the laws, this all could go away, we wouldn't be having this discussion, and that would be the best thing for the country and that would certainly be the best way to solve this crisis and fix this problem", Sanders told anchor George Stephanopoulos.
