Falcon Heavy launch delayed again, now targeted for Thursday evening

The Falcon Heavy had been scheduled to lift off from the Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday but that was delayed because of strong winds in the upper atmosphere. SpaceX will try to land two of the first-stage boosters back at Cape Canaveral and the core booster on an ocean platform. In the 2018 test mission, Heavy's core booster missed the vessel and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean.

SpaceX's Falcon Heavy proved its merit on Thursday night (April 11, ) when it took off into space on its first-ever commercial launch.

The launch also marked the first time SpaceX has managed to bring all three of the rocket's boosters back to Earth successfully after a flight. It's the most powerful launch vehicle in service right now, and the $90 price tag is about a third of what United Launch Alliance charges for the Delta IV Heavy.

The satellite will be deployed approximately 34 minutes after liftoff.

SpaceX accomplished its primary mission of launching the Arabsat-6A telecommunication satellite late this afternoon from famed Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Falcon Heavy's debut flight past year attracted massive attention, in part because CEO Elon Musk made a decision to launch his own luxury Tesla Roadster as the test payload.

It consists of the equivalent of three Falcon 9 rockets combined, tripling its thrust.

The company selected Falcon Heavy in September for a mission anticipated in late 2017 or 2018. The red Roadster - with a mannequin at the wheel - remains in a solar orbit stretching just past Mars.

"The Falcons have landed", Musk tweeted.

Lockheed Martin built the satellite, along with a second one, for Arabsat as part of a batch of contracts worth $650 million. This time, everything went off without a hitch. Featuring three brand new Block 5 boosters, this mission also has the potential to redeem a slight anomaly that caused Falcon Heavy Flight 1's center core to be destroyed during a recovery attempt.
