Android Q’s new camera features will make shutterbugs happy

Google released the first beta of Android Q yesterday, and as expected, there are a bunch of major features.

Google wants to make it as easy as possible for you to try Android Q on a device, so it's offering the Android Beta Program again this year.

As noticed by Michael Young on Twitter, Android Q has a new option that allows users to force desktop mode.

If you own a Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel and Pixel 3 XL you can access this update now. Maybe the Pixel 4 XL will inherit these, or maybe Google will upgrade them in a way.

As The Verge reports, Google today released a preview of the next version of Android. The Android Runtime (ART) in Android Q can pre-compile parts of an app to reduce launch times. With Android Q, you can choose to grant an app location access, deny it, or only allow access when the app is open.

Android Q comes with plenty of other changes aimed at improving the overall experience of using the OS.

Barcelona's Dembele out for month after hamstring injury against Lyon
Barca were dominant from the start, as Anthony Lopes leaped across goal to plug out Lionel Messi's curling effort on five minutes. Messi worked a bit of his usual magic as well. "We don't want to choose one [side] because they're all really tough", Messi said.

I feel good, says Tiger Woods on arrival at Players Championship
According to the latest oddsmakers , Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy are co-favored to win, as each has 12/1 odds to win. Rickie Fowler (+2200): Rickie Fowler was the victor of this tournament in 2015, and he is comfortable on this course.

White House tries to avert Senate defeat on border emergency
By late Tuesday, there were indications that GOP opposition to Trump's emergency along the Mexican border was softening. Still, Congress would be highly unlikely to muster the two-thirds majorities needed to eventually override a veto.

The operating system will include a new Sharing Shortcuts feature, which will let users quickly enter another app to share content.

If you have an "always on" mode activated on your Pixel phone, you'll notice that Android Q displays what's now playing (if anything actually is playing), whether it's a track from Spotify or a podcast episode.

Starting with Android Q, users will have an option to provide location access to an app only while it is being used.

This is a small but important feature because you no longer have to dig into the Settings app to figure out how to tailor an app's alerts. If you don't have a Pixel and still want to give it a go, you can, it's just a bit of a pain: you have to use the Android Emulator and grab the emulator images from the SDK Manager in Android Studio (this really is intended for devs). For example, if you're using a browser but you've got no internet connection, a setting panel can pop up and display the Internet Connectivity panel so that you can quickly toggle on Wi-Fi or mobile data without leaving your app. Yes, Google has extended the support for the good old smartphone after hearing feedback from many users.

This is because a previous benchmarking leak revealed that the Pixel 3a XL was tested with 3GB RAM and a Snapdragon 625, which in a nutshell, are disappointing specifications for a device with the name "Pixel" attached to it.

You can download the beta 1 images right here. Don't do this out of casual interest, especially since future betas figure to be more stable.
