Ex-boyfriend held in death of woman in suitcase

Police say they have arrested the ex-boyfriend of the NY woman whose body was found inside a suitcase that had been discarded on the side of a CT road.

Reyes was reported missing January 30 to the New Rochelle Police Department by her family, according to court documents.

"Together with our partners from the Greenwich and New Rochelle Police Departments, we were able to swiftly identify Javier Da Silva, an alleged murderer, and place him behind bars", FBI Assistant Dir. Then on February 5, a red suitcase in the Town of Greenwich was found by a public works employee who, on unzipping the suitcase, discovered the body of Reyes inside.

The suspect also allegedly fraudulently used Reyes' ATM card, Greenwich Police Capt. Robert Berry said Tuesday.

"We are confident that the pursuit of justice for Valerie will be successful and we continue to work with the family to provide closure to this tragedy, " Berry said in a written statement.

In a press conference on Tuesday Greenwich Police said that de Silva confessed to playing a role in the murder when he was questioned following his arrest.

The Greenwich Police Department announced the arrest of an individual "believed to be involved" in Reyes' death.

De Silva was arrested in NY and the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan will reportedly handle the prosecution of the crime. When Sanchez asked Reyes if someone had threatened her - and asked about her ex - Reyes said "no", Sanchez told WABC. He said, "Every suitcase body I ever had they were known to each other, with the exception of the Mafia, ' calling it an 'interpersonal type" of killing.

Valerie's mother Norma last week told reporters she could not move past the conversation she had with her daughter the night before she went missing.

Reyes, who worked at a Barnes & Noble in Eastchester, N.Y., planned to train to become a tattoo artist and liked to sing.

Then she told her mom, "I feel like somebody's going to murder me", the Times reports.

"I asked about her ex-boyfriend".

According to court documents, the suspect told investigators he and Reyes were having sex at her home when she fell to the floor and hit her head.

Several items were missing from Reyes' apartment, police said.

Highway workers found her body in a wooded section of Greenwich, about 10 miles from New Rochelle. DeSilva is a native of Venezuela and "has been in the country illegally since overstaying his visa", CBS New York reported, citing sources.

The Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has yet to release the autopsy results to rule the cause of death.

"My daughter was a good soul", she said.
