Fox Host Says He Hasn't Washed His Hands In 10 Years

'Pizza Hut lasts for a long time, ' Hegseth replied, justifying himself.

"As I told you, my 2019 resolution is to say things on-air that I say off-air", Hegseth explained. He did not see any issue with eating the pizza, he said, then added that he didn't think he had washed his hands in 10 years.

Speaking on Fox and Friends, Hegseth says the infectious micro-organisms did not exist because they could not be seen with the naked eye.

"Germs are not a real thing", Pete says. "Therefore, they're not real".

Hegseth argued that his unsanitary habit leaves him immune to sickness.

"I happen to be a clean hands freak".

Hegseth doubled down on his unusual concept of health and hygiene with a tweet ending in the hashtag "DontWash", sparking a fiery debate on social media.

"We live in a society where people walk around with bottles of Purell [a hand sanitiser] in their pockets, and they sanitise 19,000 times a day as if that's going to save their life", he said. Listen, I've been hearing some reports that you have not been washing your hands.

One co-host, smiling, exclaimed, "Someone help me", nearly as though she was providing an adequate button on which to end this conversation.

A Fox News spokeswoman told The Washington Post Hegseth was joking, of course, which he later said was "obvious".

Washing one's hands is one of the rudimentary best practices in preventive medicine as it prevents the spread of infections and viruses to other people. Hegseth notoriously hit a West Point drummer with a misdirected ax during a live segment from Times Square in NY in 2015.

On Monday morning, a USA Today piece came out reviewing the #DontWash incident and assuring its readers that, yes, washing your hands is incredibly important, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention "highly recommends" Hegseth, you, and I do so.
