Bernie Sanders apologizes to female campaign staff who experienced harassment

"I was little bit busy running around the country trying to make the case", Sanders told CNN on January 2.

CNN reported on Wednesday that Jeff Weaver, the longtime Sanders confidant and 2016 campaign manager, will not return to the role he held in 2016 should Sanders chose to run again, and Friends of Bernie Sanders confirmed this to VTDigger.

The adviser, Robert Becker, who oversaw Sanders's campaign in Iowa, Michigan, California and NY, and served as the deputy national field director, had allegedly grabbed a woman in her let 20s by her wrists and forcibly kissed her at a restaurant in Philadelphia.

The Vermont independent says alleged misconduct by male aides "was absolutely unacceptable and certainly not what a progressive campaign or any campaign should be about". Sanders had issued an apology and said he wasn't aware of the incidents at the time.

Sanders, apologised in an interview on CNN last week "to any woman who felt that she was not treated appropriately".

Because sexual harassment is pervasive in political campaigns, some potential 2020 presidential campaigns are reportedly performing background checks into top staffers to ensure they have no history of misconduct.

Aside from the American, the other fighters captured were from Russia, Germany, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. All but one of them were elementary school-aged children who had not been involved in acts of violence.

As detailed in a report from POLITICO published on Wednesday, top Sanders advisor Robert Becker is accused of forcibly kissing the female staffer, who is reportedly in her 20s and has remained anonymous out of fear of retribution from Sanders supporters. This can't happen in 2020. And that was clearly not the case in the 2016 campaign.

"Candidates who allow people like Robert Becker to lead their organisations shouldn't earn the highest office in our government", said the woman, naming the aide. Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential bid, has been accused of forcibly kissing a younger female subordinate during the campaign. "You can't run for President of the United States unless you acknowledge that every campaign demands a safe work environment for every employee and volunteer".

On Thursday afternoon, Sanders released a statement on Twitter, admitting that "there were some women who were harassed or mistreated". Becker had begun making preparations for another campaign and calling around to staffers when the woman came forward, and other staffers came out with similar stories, causing him to lose his position on the campaign.

Politico also reported that over a half-dozen staffers who worked with Becker on the 2016 campaign said there was "a pattern of other inappropriate behavior or poor management".

"To be clear: no one who committed sexual harassment in 2016 would be back if there were a 2020 campaign", said the committee, which also described Becker's alleged actions as "deplorable and fundamentally unacceptable".
