Wintry mix for metro area throughout day; heavy snow above 6,000 feet

A winter storm is threatening to move into the Kansas City area later this week, bringing the chance of snow and colder temperatures on Friday and Saturday.

For the metro, confidence is high that we will receive at least 1 to 3 inches of snow. Maryland communities south of Baltimore could see anywhere from three to six inches of snow.

However, if the storm does become stronger than expected, meteorologists said it could have the potential to drop as much as 5 inches across the Baltimore region. It would be a light and fluffy snow, and some roads could be a bit slick.

Snow accumulation is possible for areas to the north and west.

During the day Friday, rain will surge northeastward across the southern and central Plains.

Sunday will continue to be cloudy and while flurries can't be ruled out no accumulation would occur.
