UK's Labour will try to topple May if Brexit deal rejected

The likelihood of rejection could increase Monday if Labour is successful in forcing May to reveal the full legal advice she sought before agreeing the deal with European leaders last month.

Labour already defied the government last month when it used an arcane procedure known as the humble address to force a binding Parliament vote on the issue, which the government lost.

The spat over the legal advice came after the government insisted on publishing only "a reasoned position statement", rather than the full advice, in line with the parliament's demands. The MPs now have to calculate whether they, or Mrs May and her ministers, are more likely to be blamed for the failure should they refuse the deal she is selling (was the parrot dead, or did you kill it?).

She said: 'I have been clear from the outset that the United Kingdom will remain firmly committed to Europe's collective security after Brexit.

"This would be a collision course between the government and parliament", he added.

PRIME minister Theresa May has confirmed that the United Kingdom will not be using the Galileo satellite system for defence post-Brexit - with the country instead developing its own global satellite navigation system.

The Sunday Times said in a letter sent last month to Cabinet ministers, he advised the only way out of the backstop - created to prevent the return of a hard border with the Republic - once it was invoked was to sign a new trade deal, a process which could take years.

She did, however, receive backing from senior minister and prominent Brexit supporter Michael Gove, who warned that voting against the deal could scupper the whole process.

Gyimah, who backed remaining in the European Union during Britain's 2016 referendum, said the agreement was "a deal in name only".

"I will still have a job in two weeks' time", the Prime Minister replied.

"I will be talking with members of Parliament obviously and explaining to them why I believe this is a good deal for the United Kingdom", she emphasized.

"One of the things that I hope people will have the chance to do over the next nine days is to recognize that we should not make the flawless the enemy of the good", Gove said.

Under the backstop, the United Kingdom will be in a customs union with the EU, meaning its trading ability will be limited.

This will put May in a hard position as she attempts to lobby Conservative Party votes for her bill, while potentially having to reveal compromises over the so-called Northern Ireland "backstop" position which could doom it in the eyes of pro-Brexit MPs.

With opposition parties and dozens of the prime minister's fellow Conservatives against the deal, May's chances of winning the vote in Parliament appear slim.

Shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir wrote in the Sunday Telegraph: "If the full legal advice is not forthcoming, we will have no alternative but to start proceedings for contempt of Parliament - and we will work with all parties to take this forward".
