War no option for India and Pakistan, says Imran Khan

Earlier, during the groundbreaking ceremony of Kartarpur corridor, in Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan who laid the foundation stone had said that the only issue between India and Pakistan is Kashmir; and it all needs is just two capable leadership to resolve this issue.

The Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur is one of the holiest places in Sikhism.

"It is not in our interest to allow use of Pakistan's territory for terror outside", he said. Indian intelligence blamed Pakistan based terrorists for orchestrating the attacks.

Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj had this week made it clear that India's participation at a possible SAARC Summit in Islamabad would also depend on Pakistan's approach towards terror and the Kartarpur corridor gesture wasn't enough to resume bilateral dialogue. However, a planned meeting between the countries' foreign ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September was cancelled by Indian officials, amidst anger over stamps issued by Pakistan commemorating what they termed Indian atrocities in Kashmir.

But while the move has been welcomed by many as a positive step, the two countries remain divided, especially over the future of the disputed Kashmir region.

The "Kartarpur corridor" will however lead from the Indian border straight to the gurdwara, with the sides fenced off.

Thousands of Sikh devotees from India visit Pakistan every year to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.

Indian External Affairs Ministers Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi were set to meet on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in NY, that could have marked the first thaw in bilateral ties that have steadily deteriorated.

She said, "Kartarpur can be a new beginning of reconciliation between the two neighbours. Because, as I said, that unless and until Pakistan stops terrorist activities in India, there will be no dialogue and we will not participate in SAARC" Swaraj said.

No one, he asserted, can make progress without learning from their past experiences.

The corridor will enable devotees to travel from the border town of Gurdaspur and across the worldwide border into Pakistan without visas.

"We will develop the corridor to provide the pilgrims with facilities of worldwide standard", Prime Minister Imran khan said while addressing the ceremony held to mark the opening. Back in 2014, Modi invited then Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to his swearing-in ceremony and later visited him in Pakistan on his birthday in December, 2015.

Mufti proposed that New Delhi and Islamabad should now focus on facilitating the pilgrimage to Sharda Peeth, an abandoned temple in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, to improve ties. Sidhu's "star" status in Pakistan could be seen as a bridge to influence opinion in Punjab, but this will be seriously tested by incidents like the attack on a Nirankari Bhawan near Amritsar last week.

He, however, regretted that the Indian response has so far been disappointing. "However, all my life I have come across small men occupying big offices who do not have the vision to see the larger picture", tweeted Khan.
