Israeli Air Force kills 7 militants in strike at Syrian border

Israel's military on Thursday said its aircraft targeted and killed seven militants who had entered the Israeli-held Golan Heights from Syria, where Syrian government forces are snuffing out the final remnants of a years-long armed rebellion.

Seven members of the ISIS-affiliated jihadist group that remains active in southern Syria were reportedly killed late Wednesday night in an Israeli air strike.

Russian Federation will deploy its military police on the Golan Heights frontier between Syria and Israel, its defense ministry said on Thursday, after weeks of mounting volatility in the area.

In Amman, Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said that the Syrian government has not officially requested to open the Syria-Jordan border, after government forces recaptured its side of a crossing from rebels last month.

Russian Federation announced Thursday that it would deploy military police and place monitoring posts on the Golan Heights to prevent further confrontations.

A series of blistering offensives backed by Moscow and Tehran has forced the rebels out of many of their strongholds, putting Assad's government back in control of almost two-thirds of the country.

Russian Federation on Wednesday said that Iran had withdrawn its heavy weaponry to about 50 miles from the border, a measure Israeli officials said was inadequate.

He said Israeli forces believed they were "on a terrorist mission" and "trying to infiltrate into Israel".
